Fox News Interview

Text Box: Coins Plus, formerly located next to the Ritz Theater in Clinton, now located at 108 Shipe St., between Knight's Flowers and the Apple Blossom Cafe, has spent over five years serving coin hobbyists and investors in Anderson, Roane and Knox counties. The owner of Coins Plus, Curt Kelsey, started the business with nothing more than his personal passion for coin-collecting and his own small collection, never dreaming that his hobby would gain so much momentum in the declining economy.

"People these days are less concerned with return ON their investment, and more concerned with the return OF their investment," Curt states, as a fan of Dr. Larry Bates, "Gold and silver are the only assets investors hold that are not someone else's liability, therefore the 401K and stock crash of 2008 did not decimate the savings of those who held precious metals. You can draw your own conclusions from there."

"We're filling a need in the community because people need a safer way to store their savings, both for themselves and for their children and grandchildren, in something that won't depend on inflation or deflation of the dollar. Historically, precious metals have kept up with, or stayed just ahead of inflation consistently. In 1964 a silver quarter would buy a couple loaves of bread; at today's rates, a silver quarter is worth about $2.50, which will still buy a couple loaves of bread."

Gold having recently reached all time high values has created curiosity in the media as well. Curt was interviewed by Fox 43 reporter Tearsa Smith not long ago. Video of the interview is available on the Coins Plus website http://www.ckcoinspluscurrencytn.com or on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_ol_tKQAcg.

Having started in a small building of 600 sq ft. across from the Anderson County courthouse, Coins Plus moved and expanded in May of 2009 to 108 Shipe St, into a showroom of over 1000 sq. ft., with a private room for appraisals. It also offers more, and free, parking for customers.

The new facility allows for more inventory display, as well as a separate area for collection evaluation without interruption from general store traffic. People frequently call to ask about the value of their coins, but having the coins physically in front of the dealer is essential in order to determine value, due to the importance of condition, mint marks and dates.

Owning the building and grounds also provides for better security, as modifications can be made to deter would-be burglars, and allows for armed security personnel to be on premises at all times, even overnight.

When asked why he thinks his business has endured while so many others are struggling, Curt simply says, "I was blessed to be in the right market at the right time. Know what you're doing, why you're doing it, treat people fairly and you'll be able to stand while others, who are just out for a quick buck, will fall. I believe in good stewardship, and that principle has caused me to be blessed. One of the proverbs of coin-collecting is 'If you don't know your coins, you'd better know your coin dealer.'"
